These finals turned out kind of oriental, I just noticed.

I need help choosing one of these for my final. Which is the strongest?
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

I like option two the best, because it reminds me of the styles Greek vase painters used to apply figures onto pottery. The figures in this image stand out the best in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think the middle one is the best. It has the most contrast, and the figures stand out the most - as they should. I'm curious as to whether the colors stand for anything. Im not getting the sense of growth from this as much as from your original one. Has your concept changed?
ReplyDeleteI too cast my vote for the middle image. the others feel so much less definitive while the second image really holds my attention.
ReplyDeleteI feel the middle one is the strongest piece out of the three. I agree with Ingrid as well, your concept seems to have changed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ingrid and Cat, What is your reasoning behind this image? I am very curious. Other than that, go with the middle image.
ReplyDeleteAh I really like the first one and the last one! I enjoy the opacity of the images so that you can still make out the tree in the background. But as with the others, it is hard for me to understand the concept. But maybe it isn't so important to you that others understand all of the meaning behind it? It is still a strong piece nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteLove the middle image with its contrasts ... I like and agree with Danielle's reference to Greek pottery. I enjoy your idea of figures interacting with the branches. The large circulars reference cycle and I'm wondering if the arrangement of them does as well. Maybe you could experiment with levels and textures, although the relative simplicity of your design is very nice.
ReplyDeleteHey guys - my concept did change a little. This speaks more towards spiritual, mental and psychological growth that everyone faces towards the adult phase of our lives. Or, the three images can also represent death or depression, the latter which is more personal to myself. The woman sits in isolation and seems to be curling into herself like a tree would curl up when it was not well. You can really take it whichever way you see it, though.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd and 3rd work best, but out of those I would say the 3rd one. I think more transparency works better because you can see the connection between the trees and the human easier. I'm not liking the first one mainly because I think the blue color in the others works better to show expression.
ReplyDeleteThe third one looks like it works the most out of the three. I really love your idea and what you've done with it.
ReplyDeletethese are cool i wish the one on the right was in the center so it was more balanced
ReplyDeleteI am going to guess that We would all pick different images if asked our preferences. I like the bottom ones as they are less Litteral and as we discussed in class remind me of Greek urns. Great improvements on the trees – nice job. I am guessing we will all be unhappy with those white lines filling in on the final proof. I would milk back the canvas whites and the figures if possible. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm leaning towards the last one out of these three, but that's just personal opinion. These figure gestures are really beautiful and expressive. I think the opaqueness is working the best for me because it still brings attention to whats necessary, but blends it all together as well. The shapes of the branches are all too beautiful within the body.
